Cartizze Prosecco Superiore Meriotto Bookmark and Share

Cartizze Prosecco which is also termed as the “Superiore Meriotto” is produced from the cent percent Prosecco grapes grown in the Santo Stefano hills in the slopes of Cartizze which is a small 1,000-foot-high vineyard of 107 hectares (260 acres) of vines which are owned by a little group of just 140 growers from the local region. The place is situated in the Valdobbiadene Municipal area within Veneto.

The Cartizze Prosecco wine that grows from these grapes, which is produced in relatively lesser amounts is taken to be the highest quality of Prosecco around the world and is crowned with the term, “Grand Cru of Prosecco.” In view of that, a hectare of this Cartizze grape land is projected to more than one million US dollars.

In this context, there is a very interesting local myth that has been flying about in the airs for years. It is believed that the Cartizze grapes were by tradition plucked at the last, as these vines were to be found on the steep slopes and hence it was hard to reach there. In the process the vintners realized that the extended span of time which these grapes got to mature added on the flavor of the wine when fermented. This is the region located in the ancient borgo San Martino town neighboring to Valdobbiadene. The Prosecco producers in this region have been practicing this vocation for ages precisely because they nurture the passion for the entire Prosecco growing methodology.

Cartizze Prosecco is produced using the Charmat method which characterizes a secondary round of fermentation that takes place in stainless steel tanks making the wine production process a lot less expensive, unlike the champagne method. Once ready, Cartizze gains a light yellow color with a brilliant sparkle and a fine persistent perlage. And the most exotic is the aroma of this wine which is a blend of the fruity peach and pear flavor along with glicine and a dash of balanced sweet.

Cartizze Prosecco tastes the best when served chill at 6-8°C after meals or with desserts like strawberry mousse or dry pastries. Believe it or not, this is one of the best ever wines that I have tasted, and I am sure you will feel the same way the moment you sip Cartizze Prosecco for the first time.
